IQ(Intelligence Quotient) Scores

IQ is often expressed in percentiles, which is not the same as percentage scores, and a common reason for the misunderstanding of IQ test scores. Percentage refers to the number of items which a child answers correctly compared to the total number of items presented. If a child answers 25 questions correctly on a 50 question test he would earn a percentage score of 50.

If he answers 40 questions on the same test his percentage score would be 80. Percentile, however, refers to the number of other test takers’ scores that an individual’s score equals or exceeds. If a child answered 25 questions and did better than 50% of the children taking the test he would score at the 50th percentile.

However, if he answered 40 questions on the 50 item test and everyone else answered more than he did, he would fall at a very low percentile — even though he answered 80% of the questions correctly.

On most standardized tests, an IQ of 100 is at the 50th percentile.

Most of our IQ tests are standardized with a mean score of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. What that means is that the following IQ scores will be roughly equivalent to the following percentiles:

An IQ of 120 therefore implies that the testee is brighter than about 91% of the population, while 130 puts a person ahead of 98% of people. A person with an IQ of 80 is brighter than only 9% of people, and only a few score less than 60.

So basically this is the general use of interpreting the IQ test scores. Since we're in Degree Students, I guess I suppose to reach 125-134 IQ test score otherwise I will be facing problem during my studies in College.....

* 115-124 - Above average (e.g., university students)
* 125-134 - Gifted (e.g., post-graduate students)
* 135-144 - Highly gifted (e.g., intellectuals)
* 145-154 - Genius (e.g., professors)
* 155-164 - Genius (e.g., Nobel Prize winners)
* 165-179 - High genius
* 180-200 - Highest genius
* >200 - "Unmeasurable genius"

That is just one of the methods of measuring IQ test scores. Here are few more examples :
# Percentiles: These scores show how a student's performance compares to others tested during test development. A student who scores at the 50th percentile performed at least as well as 50 percent of students his age in the development of the test. As you will note on the table below, a score at the 50th percentile is within the average range.
# Z-Scores: These scores range from +4 to -4 and have an average of zero. Positive scores are above average. Negative scores are below average. The table below shows the approximate percentile scores that correspond to z-scores.
# T-Scores: have an average of 50 and a standard deviation of 10. Scores above 50 are above average. Scores below 50 are below average. The table below shows the approximate standard scores, percentile scores, and z-scores, scores that correspond to t-scores.
# Stanine Scores: Stanine is a contraction of the term "standard nine." These scores range from one to nine and have an average of about 4.5.

Important thing to note is that IQ scores of 118 at the age of 20 is average but if your age is 10 and you get 118 IQ test score, I believe that is ABOVE average. Thus the IQ test scores interpretation differs according to age. Besides I believe that no matter what IQ test scores we are, as long we work hard and think different than others we will be successful in business world ^_^ Take my compilation of article as a guide and I will not held any responsibilities for any consequences! There is a research done by Malcolm Gladwell stating that you only need an IQ of 120 "good enough" and "10,000-Hour Rule" for success these are mentioned in his book entitled the "Outliers". Outliers included one of the Malcolm thesis about how two people with exceptional intelligence, Christopher Langan(IQ of 195) and J. Robert Oppenheimer, end up with such vastly different fortunes. Gladwell continuously reminds the reader that genius is not the only or even the most important thing when determining a person's success......
