Provinces and ruling families
Ran (藍, Ran, Blue) — The most powerful clan in Saiunkoku, although they play a dormant role in the political issues of the country.

Kou (紅, Kō, Red) — Equal power to that of the Ran clan. Along with the Ran clan, the Kou clan is known to be the 'highest of nobility'.

Heki (碧, Heki, Green)

Kou (黄, Kō/Ki, Yellow) — Although pronounced the same as the 'Red' (紅) clan, the kanji (黄) means 'yellow'

Haku (白, Haku , White)

Koku (黒, Koku , Black)

Sa (茶, Sa, Brown) — Known as the least distinguished clan in Saiunkoku

Shi (紫, Shi, Purple) — The family of the Emperor

Saiunkoku is a world of eight provinces or houses, each named after a different colour. The new Emperor, Shi Ryuuki, has gained for a reputation for being uninterested in courtly matters and for flaunting his love for men.

Shuurei, although born of the important Kou family, has difficulty making ends meet. She easily accepts an invitation to be the Emperor's concubine in order to turn him into a good ruler.

The mysterious Seiran, a young man who was adopted by her father, goes with her as Ryuuki's bodyguard. Entering the imperial palace Shuurei made Ryuuki regain his spirit and become the king as he should be...

Let me give you a hint, Seiran is Ryuuki's long lost brother who should be a King but he was throw out of the Castle when he is 13years old

Ryuuki is not as stupid as he seems, he knows more than anyone and is smarter than anyone...... He loves to act stupid as he finds no reason to be smart....

Hey Shuurei went into the palace is because she was paid to do so =P haha

This Anime also tell us about the girl, Shuurei took the National Exam which usually girl is not allow to enter, Ryuuki made amendment on the rules which enable Shuurei to take the Exam!
